Tuomas Turriago (b. 1979) is a pianist, composer and many-sided musician. He is known primarily as an experienced chamber musician whose repertoire comprises virtually the entire mainstream piano-chamber-music corpus from the Classical Period to the present. He is also known as a pianist in which capacity he has appeared as soloist with several orchestras: in Finland, Tampere Philharmonic, Tampere Raw, Mikkeli City Orchestra and Jyväskylä Sinfonia. Mr. Turriago has performed at numerous music festivals in Finland and all over Europe, the US, Colombia, Near East and Far East.
Tuomas Turriago is a founding member and conductor of Tampere’s Chamber Opera Association. In his ever-increasing activity as a conductor he has performed with Mikkeli’s City Orchestra, Tampere Raw and the Tampere Philharmonic Brass.
Since the autumn of 2010 Mr. Turriago has been a member of the Finnish Composers’ Association. His composition catalogue includes two piano sonatas (Uusinta Kustannus Oy), two string quartets, a work for solo harp, a work for Saxophone and Piano, Sonatas for Trumpet and Piano and for Tuba and Piano (Fennica Gehrman Oy), a work for Tuba and Accordion, a Symphony for Strings, a work for Brass Ensemble and Percussion, and several solo piano works.
Mr. Turriago’s association with the In Time-quintet specialized in Astor Piazzolla’s music began in 2011.
Tuomas Turriago has recorded for Alba and Pilfink –labels. His most recent recording, in collaboration with trumpetist Jouko Harjanne, includes sonatas for trumpet and piano by Wessman, Eerola, Sipilä and Mr. Turriago himself.
Since 2004 Tuomas Turriago has worked as a lecturer in collaborating piano at Tampere’s University for Applied Sciences.
